Bake-O-Glide® Use

How do you use Bake-O-Glide®?

Simply place your Bake-O-Glide® in your baking tray/ cake tin/ pan instead of using additional grease/ oil or single-use parchment paper.

What is Bake-O-Glide® made of?
  • Bake-O-Glide® is a Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coated glass fibre fabric. This means it is a durable, non-stick reusable material, which is particularly suitable for fatty and oily foods.
  • The woven glass fabric is coated with the milk-like PTFE dispersion and then coated and heated repeatedly to create the required thickness of both the material and coating of PTFE.
Is Bake-O-Glide® safe to use?

All Bake-O-Glide® products conform to Plastic Materials and Articles in Contact with Food Commission Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 and hence Article 3 of European Regulation No 1935/2004: following Methods BSEN 1186:2002. All Bake-O-Glide® PTFE products are manufactured from PFOA-free dispersions.

How long does Bake-O-Glide® last?

Providing the correct care has been taken to clean and store your Bake-O-Glide®, it can last for hundreds of uses and provide years of use. Over time, Bake-O-Glide® will darken with use but this does not affect the performance of the product.

How do you clean Bake-O-Glide®?

Bake-O-Glide® can be wiped down and washed with warm soapy water. Bake-O-Glide® is also dishwasher safe.

How do you store Bake-O-Glide®?

Bake-O-Glide® is best stored rolled or flat– never folded/ creased as this will weaken the strength of the material.

Bake-O-Glide® Induction Hob Protector Information

Cleaning your Induction Hob
  1. Before cleaning make sure that the cooktop is off and has completely cooled first.
  2. Wipe with a Mr Eco Cellulose Sponge Cloth, warm water and detergent.
  3. Apply HG Hob Cleaner Extra Strong with the Mr Eco Cellulose Sponge Cloth to clean the surface (apply a bit of pressure if necessary).
  4. Rinse out the cellulose sponge with warm clean water and then wipe over the hob.
  5. Buff to a shine with a Spontex Microfibre Cloth.

Food spills should be cleaned up as soon as possible and always keep the bottom of your pots and pans clean.

Can I use the Induction Hob Protector on a Ceramic Hob?

NO it is not suitable for this type of hob.

The ceramic hob will reach too high a temperature, causing the silicone to break down and melt then the woven mesh fabric base will start to disintegrate. This may then cause permanent marks on your hob!

The protector will smoke a lot but should not set on fire!

IF YOUR HOB GLOWS ORANGE / RED IT IS NOT AN INDUCTION HOB!

White spots have appeared on my protector!

Cause

This is due to excessive temperature (over 250°C) where the silicone has melted off the protector leaving the bare white glass fibres exposed.

There are two potential causes for this issue:

  1. “hot spot” on the pan / cookware being used on the hob. The entire base of the pan does not become overheated just one particular spot on the base of the pan. Customers with this same issue have used other pans from the same set / manufacturer and have had no issues.
  2. Alternatively there may be an issue with one of the hobs thermal breakers, please consult with the manufacturer of the hob.

This issue is not the fault of the Induction Hob Protector, but possibly a defect in the cookware or an issue with the hob. If this issue occurs, DO NOT continue to use the same pan on the protector as this will cause further damage.

Do induction hobs scratch easily?

Although induction hob glass is tough, scratches can still occur. An easy step to help protect the glass is by fitting one of our Bake-O-Glide® Induction Hob Protectors.

What can you put on an induction hob to protect it?

Bake-O-Glide® Induction Hob Protectors.

Benefits:

  1. Prevents scratches, scuffs & marks.
  2. Maintains connectivity.
  3. Heatproof up to 250°C.
  4. Wash in warm soapy water and dry with a towel.
  5. Unedged can be cut to fit.
  6. Various sizes available
Why has my Induction Hob glass cracked?

The main causes for damage are impacts and extreme temperatures.

Impacts From Cookware

Glass-ceramic stove tops are durable, but not immune to the impact of heavy objects. Dropping or banging a heavy object on the surface will likely cause damage.

When dragged across the glass surface, rough pots and pans create micro-scratches. As they accumulate over time, they can weaken the integrity of the glass to the point of cracking.

Excessive Heat and Temperature Changes

Certain cookware sustains heat longer. This extended heat exposure can create enough stress to crack the glass.

Food that has been cooked onto the surface can create hot spots that cause cracking. A similar effect occurs when substances, such as enamelled cookware or plastic utensils, melt onto the glass.

Thermal shock occurs when cool glass is exposed to sudden heat. A common cause of cracks is when hot pots are placed onto a cold glass surface. The damage is immediate and often extensive.

Other issues

If the opening for the hob is too small the glass expands when hot and it can cause the Induction Hob to crack.

Also if the crack only appears on one of the 'rings' this may be caused by a faulty thermal breaker. Should this occur please contact your Induction Hob manufacturer.

If you have a cracked glass on your Induction Hob we recommend that you DO NOT use the hob until it has been repaired or replaced.
