This guide answers common questions about using, cleaning and caring for Bake-O-Glide® Induction Hob Protectors.
Important compatibility information: Bake-O-Glide® Induction Hob Protectors are designed exclusively for induction hobs. Do not use them on ceramic, gas, radiant or solid-plate hobs. If a cooking zone glows red or orange when switched on, it is not an induction hob and the protector is unsuitable.
Yes. Bake-O-Glide® Induction Hob Protectors are designed to sit between compatible induction cookware and the glass surface while cooking.
Before use, make sure the hob and underside of your cookware are clean and dry. Position the protector flat on the glass and keep both the protector and cookware within the boundaries of the hob.
The protector is heat resistant to 250°C.
The protector creates a barrier between your cookware and the glass, helping to reduce scratches, scuffs and marks caused by everyday pan movement.
It is particularly useful underneath heavier cookware, including cast-iron and enamelled pans.
A protector cannot prevent damage caused by cookware being dropped or struck heavily against the hob. Always lift pans instead of dragging them, and keep grit, salt and food debris away from the glass.
The Solid Induction Hob Protector has a sealed surface that prevents spills and splashes from passing through to the glass.
The Original, Edged and Circle protectors use open mesh. They protect against scratches, but liquid can pass through them and should still be cleaned from the hob.
The Original protector has open edges and can be carefully trimmed using sharp scissors.
The Circle protectors can also be trimmed carefully when required.
Do not trim the Edged or Solid protectors. Cutting either design would damage its sealed border.
Yes. All models can be used on both sides, they are all identical on either side.
We recommend leaving the protector on your induction hob when it is not in use. This helps protect the glass against unforeseen scratches, impacts and other accidental damage.
If you prefer to remove and store the protector, keep it flat in a clean, dry place. Do not fold or sharply crease it.
The Bake-O-Glide® Induction Hob Protector is a great cover for protecting your induction hob when not in use. Various sizes available to suit your induction hob. Can also be left on the induction hob when cooking.
Allow the hob and protector to cool completely before cleaning.
Do not use metal scrapers, abrasive scourers or harsh brushes. Hand washing is recommended; do not put the protector in a dishwasher.
For stubborn grease or food residue:
Do not fold or sharply crease the protector.
Allow the hob to cool completely, then remove the protector and wipe away loose debris.
For convenient maintenance, use our Induction Hob Cleaning Kit. Alternatively, clean the glass with HG Hob Cleaner Extra Strong and a soft Spontex Microfibre Kitchen Cloth.
Avoid steel wool, abrasive scourers and unsuitable household chemicals. Always follow the cleaning product manufacturer’s instructions.

No. Bake-O-Glide® Induction Hob Protectors are designed exclusively for induction hobs.
Do not use them on ceramic, gas, radiant or solid-plate hobs, or with induction converter plates. These cooking surfaces reach temperatures that exceed the protector's maximum temperature rating and can cause the silicone to melt. Using the protector on an incompatible cooking surface can damage the protector and may mark the hob. Exceeding the temperature rating may also result in lots of smoke being produced.
If a cooking zone glows red or orange when switched on, it is not an induction hob and the protector is unsuitable.
White areas can appear when the silicone coating has deteriorated and exposed the pale glass fibres underneath.
This indicates that part of the protector has been exposed to excessive localised heat. Possible causes include a hot spot on the base of a pan or a problem affecting the hob.
Alternatively there may be an issue with one of the hobs thermal breakers, please consult with the manufacturer of the hob.
This issue is not the fault of the Induction Hob Protector, but possibly a defect in the cookware or an issue with the hob.
If this issue occurs, DO NOT continue to use the same pan on the protector as this will cause further damage.
DO NOT continue using a protector if its coating is breaking down or its internal fibres have become exposed.
The main causes for damage are impacts and extreme temperatures.
Glass-ceramic stove tops are durable, but not immune to the impact of heavy objects. Dropping or banging a heavy object on the surface will likely cause damage.
When dragged across the glass surface, rough pots and pans create micro-scratches. As they accumulate over time, they can weaken the integrity of the glass to the point of cracking.
Certain cookware sustains heat longer. This extended heat exposure can create enough stress to crack the glass.
Food that has been cooked onto the surface can create hot spots that cause cracking. A similar effect occurs when substances, such as enamelled cookware or plastic utensils, melt onto the glass.
Thermal shock occurs when cool glass is exposed to sudden heat. A common cause of cracks is when hot pots are placed onto a cold glass surface. The damage is immediate and often extensive.
If the opening for the hob is too small the glass expands when hot and it can cause the Induction Hob to crack.
Also if the crack only appears on one of the 'rings' this may be caused by a faulty thermal breaker. Should this occur please contact your Induction Hob manufacturer.
If you have a cracked glass on your Induction Hob we recommend that you DO NOT use the hob until it has been repaired or replaced.
Switch the hob off and do not continue using it.
Cracked hob glass may present an electrical and physical safety risk. Follow the appliance manufacturer’s instructions and arrange an inspection or repair through the manufacturer or a suitably qualified technician.
An induction hob protector helps reduce everyday scratches and scuffs. It cannot make cracked glass safe or prevent damage caused by a heavy impact.
