Deep Cleaning Your Bake-O-Glide® Induction Hob Protector

For a thorough clean and restored grip, follow these easy deep cleaning steps:

  1. Shake off Excess Food: Start by shaking any loose or burnt-on food residue directly into your bin.
  2. Soak with a Dishwasher Tablet: Place the Bake-O-Glide® protector in a large bowl or sink. Add a dishwasher tablet and carefully pour boiling water over it to cover the protector completely.
  3. Loosen Stubborn Stains: Let the protector soak for at least 15-20 minutes. This hot, soapy water bath will help loosen any stubborn stains.
  4. Gentle Agitation: After soaking, gently agitate any remaining residue with a soft washing-up brush. Avoid using abrasive scrubbers or brushes, as these can damage the silicone.
  5. Rinse and Dry: Rinse the protector thoroughly with clean, warm water to remove all soap residue.
  6. Air Dry or Towel Roll: For air drying, lay the protector flat on a clean drying rack or towel. Alternatively, for a quicker drying method:
  • Spread one or two tea towels flat on your work surface.
  • Roll the protector in the towels.
  • Gently "bash" the rolled-up protector on the work surface to remove any trapped water.

This deep cleaning method is particularly effective for stubborn stains and can also help restore a non-slip grip to your protector by removing built-up oils and grease.

This method of cleaning can be used with all Bake-O-Glide® silicone coated products.

Can I use the Induction Hob Protector on a Ceramic Hob?

NO it is not suitable for this type of hob.

The ceramic hob will reach too high a temperature, causing the silicone to break down and melt then the woven mesh fabric base will start to disintegrate. This may then cause permanent marks on your hob!

The protector will smoke a lot but should not set on fire!

IF YOUR HOB GLOWS ORANGE / RED IT IS NOT AN INDUCTION HOB!

White spots have appeared on my protector!

Cause

This is due to excessive temperature (over 250°C) where the silicone has melted off the protector leaving the bare white glass fibres exposed.

There are two potential causes for this issue:

  1. “hot spot” on the pan / cookware being used on the hob. The entire base of the pan does not become overheated just one particular spot on the base of the pan. Customers with this same issue have used other pans from the same set / manufacturer and have had no issues.
  2. Alternatively there may be an issue with one of the hobs thermal breakers, please consult with the manufacturer of the hob.

This issue is not the fault of the Induction Hob Protector, but possibly a defect in the cookware or an issue with the hob. If this issue occurs, DO NOT continue to use the same pan on the protector as this will cause further damage.

Why has my Induction Hob glass cracked?

The main causes for damage are impacts and extreme temperatures.

Impacts From Cookware

Glass-ceramic stove tops are durable, but not immune to the impact of heavy objects. Dropping or banging a heavy object on the surface will likely cause damage.

When dragged across the glass surface, rough pots and pans create micro-scratches. As they accumulate over time, they can weaken the integrity of the glass to the point of cracking.

Excessive Heat and Temperature Changes

Certain cookware sustains heat longer. This extended heat exposure can create enough stress to crack the glass.

Food that has been cooked onto the surface can create hot spots that cause cracking. A similar effect occurs when substances, such as enamelled cookware or plastic utensils, melt onto the glass.

Thermal shock occurs when cool glass is exposed to sudden heat. A common cause of cracks is when hot pots are placed onto a cold glass surface. The damage is immediate and often extensive.

Other issues

If the opening for the hob is too small the glass expands when hot and it can cause the Induction Hob to crack.

Also if the crack only appears on one of the 'rings' this may be caused by a faulty thermal breaker. Should this occur please contact your Induction Hob manufacturer.

If you have a cracked glass on your Induction Hob we recommend that you DO NOT use the hob until it has been repaired or replaced.
