The Bake-O-Glide® Solid Induction Hob Protector is the most protective mat in our induction range. It is built on the same tough black mesh as our other protectors, but the surface is sealed with a clear silicone coating so it works as a solid barrier. Spills, splashes and boil-overs sit on top of the mat instead of reaching the glass, then wipe away in seconds. New and exclusive to Bake-O-Glide.

Original vs Edged vs Solid
All three protectors are built on the same heat-resistant silicone coated fabric. The difference comes down to the edges and the surface, and how much spill protection you want on top of everyday scratch protection.

How to Use
Place the Bake-O-Glide® Solid Induction Hob Protector directly onto an induction hob only.
This protector is designed for use while cooking on an induction hob. It allows compatible
induction cookware to operate normally while helping to protect the glass surface beneath.

Sealed Solid Surface
Unlike an open-mesh protector, the Solid version has a clear silicone coating that seals the entire surface. Spills, splashes and boil-overs remain on top rather than passing through to the glass beneath, making the clean-up quicker and easier.
It provides the fullest protection in the Bake-O-Glide® induction range while retaining the same low-profile appearance and heat resistance up to 250°C
Because the surface and edges are sealed, this version is supplied in fixed pre-cut sizes rather than trimmed to fit.
For Induction Hobs Only
Do not use on ceramic, gas, radiant or solid-plate hobs. If the cooking zone glows red or orange when switched on, it is not an induction hob and this protector is not suitable.
Using this protector on a non-induction hob is misuse and will not be eligible for a replacement.
Cleaning & Care
The sealed surface makes the Solid the easiest protector in the range to clean. Because nothing gets trapped in a mesh, there are three simple ways to keep it clean:

Everyday wipe: Wipe with warm water, mild washing-up liquid and a soft cloth or sponge. The protector can normally be cleaned without removing it from the hob.
- Full clean: Remove the protector, rinse under warm water and clean with mild washing-up liquid. Rinse thoroughly and dry before returning it to the hob.
- Deep clean: soak with a dishwasher tablet in boiling water for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and air dry.
Allow the hob and protector to cool completely before cleaning.
For longest life, hand wash rather than using a dishwasher, and store the mat rolled or flat.
For best results and to keep your hob looking like new, many customers also use HG Hob Cleaner Extra Strong, Mr. Eco Cellulose Sponge Cloths, and Spontex Microfibre Kitchen Cleaning Kit.
Care Tips
- Do not fold or crease the mat.
- Clean without scrapers or harsh brushes.
- Keep away from open flames or heating elements.
- White spots can appear over time. Please see our FAQs for the cause and prevention advice.
- Circles may appear on the protector after use, but these should disappear after cleaning.

Can I leave the hob protector on while cooking?
Yes, the Bake-O-Glide® Induction Hob Protector is designed to stay on your hob during cooking. It won't affect the induction cooking process or heat transfer, and is heat resistant to 250°C, giving reliable protection under your cookware.
How is the Solid protector different from the Original and Edged?
The Original and Edged are open mesh mats that stop scratches and let heat move freely. The Solid uses the same mesh but seals the surface with a clear silicone coating, so it also works as a barrier against spills. Anything that spills stays on top of the mat rather than passing through to the glass, then wipes away easily. All three are heat resistant to 250C.
Does the sealed surface stop spills reaching the hob?
Yes. The Solid protector surface is sealed with silicone, so spills, sauce splashes and boil-overs sit on top of the mat instead of passing through to the glass. Wipe or lift the mat afterwards and the hob underneath stays clean.
How do I clean the Solid protector?
The sealed surface makes the Solid the easiest protector in the range to clean, because nothing gets trapped in a mesh. There are three simple ways to clean it. For everyday messes, spray it with a kitchen cleaner and wipe with a damp cloth or sponge, without taking it off the hob. For a fuller clean, rinse under hot water and wipe dry, using a mild detergent for tougher marks. For a deep clean, soak it with a dishwasher tablet in boiling water for 15 to 20 minutes, gently scrub with a soft brush, rinse thoroughly and air dry. Because the mat stops spills reaching the glass, you only have the protector to clean rather than the hob as well. Avoid harsh scrubbers and do not put it in the dishwasher.
Does the Solid protector leave a mark where the pan sits?
You may see a light mark on the surface where a hot pan has been. This is normal, it is not permanent, and it wipes away with a damp cloth. The mark stays on the mat, which is exactly what keeps it off the glass underneath.
What's the difference between the Original and Edged protectors?
The Original version offers flexible, cut-to-fit convenience at a lower price point and can be trimmed with scissors to match any hob size. The Edged version features sealed silicone edges that prevent fraying and provide enhanced durability and grip. Both offer the same heat resistance (250°C) and scratch protection.
Will this protector work on ceramic or gas hobs?
No, this protector is only suitable for induction hobs. Ceramic and gas hobs reach temperatures that exceed 250°C, which will cause the silicone coating to melt and the material to disintegrate. This can cause permanent damage to your hob surface. If your hob glows orange or red when heating, it is NOT an induction hob and this product is not compatible.
What size do I need for my hob?
The Solid protector comes in four sizes: 295 x 520mm (2 ring), 590 x 520mm (4 ring), 780 x 520mm (5-6 ring) and 1069 x 489mm (extra large 5-6 ring). Measure your hob glass surface and choose the closest match. For bespoke sizes, email bespoke@bakeoglide.kitchen with your dimensions.
Why have white spots appeared on my protector?
White spots indicate the silicone coating has melted due to excessive heat (over 250°C), exposing the white glass fibres underneath. This is typically caused by a hot spot on your pan's base or a faulty thermal breaker in your hob. Stop using that particular pan or consult your hob manufacturer. This issue is not a defect in the protector but indicates cookware or hob problems.
Does the protector prevent scratches from cast iron cookware?
Yes, the Bake-O-Glide® Protector is specifically designed to protect your induction hob from scratches caused by heavy enamelled cast iron pots, casseroles and other rough-bottomed pots. The heat-resistant silicone coating creates a protective barrier between your cookware and the delicate glass surface, keeping your hob looking new even with daily use.
